Gifting Build Materials to our Home Build Program

When people think about Habitat for Humanity Hamilton supporters, they often envision volunteers lending their time on our build sites, people shopping in the ReStore or service clubs fundraising on behalf of our organization. But above and beyond these amazing supporters, we also have a phenomenal group of companies, that provide gift-in-kind (GIK) donations for our Home Build Program.

GIK donations to our Home Build Program are donations of new material and items that can be used to build our homes. Examples include lumber, windows, roofing supplies, HVAC equipment, siding, cabinetry and much more. GIK donations can make the world of difference, enabling us to stretch every monetary donation further and helping us build homes, more efficiently.

One of our most recent GIK donors is Dulux Paints, who has pledged to donate paint and paint products for every single one of our upcoming home builds. This means we’ll have all the paint we need to help turn our build sites into beautiful homes, without dipping into our fundraising dollars. This enables us to allocate the monies that would have originally gone towards procuring paint to other material and items that are more difficult to secure as GIK donations.

If you’ve had the chance to drive past our Waterdown Townhome Build, curb appeal is what will strike you first. The townhomes are beautiful, which is a true testament to the great work and generosity of our GIK donors, including Mikmada Homes and Pollard Windows and Doors, both of which donated a portion of the modern and high-quality windows and doors our homeowners will soon enjoy. Brampton Brick donated brick, GAF donated shingles, and Canadian Star Aluminum donated the siding, soffit, eaves-troughs and downspouts.

Inside the homes, you’ll notice a continuation of beautiful design and use of products and materials that have also been donated. Kitchens are often dubbed the heart of the home and our Waterdown Townhome Build kitchens live up to that statement! Generously discounted by Frendel Kitchens Ltd., our kitchen cabinets, fixtures and counter tops will provide our homeowners with a functional space to prepare healthy meals and reconnect with family.

In the kitchens and bathrooms, Moen has graciously donated the faucets and taps, American Standard has donated toilets, tubs and sinks and BOW Plumbing Group provided the plumbing supplies. Quality Sterling Group also donated the flooring throughout the townhomes.

Some GIK donations are less visible, but they’re just as important to ensuring our future homeowners have a safe, livable and comfortable home. CGC, for instance, donated all of the drywall for the build, Turkstra Lumber donated a variety of build materials and Excel Heating and Air Conditioning donated the HVAC materials.

It truly takes a community of supporters to further our mission to build strength, stability and self-reliance through shelter. And we couldn’t do it without the generosity of our GIK donors.

Habitat Hamilton prides itself on ensuring our future homeowners have everything they need to live and thrive in their new homes and we rely on our GIK donations to make that happen. If you’re interested in becoming a GIK donor, please contact Peter Walberg at peter@ebapi.ca for more information.
