Ontario Corps: Being Ready to Help When Your Community Needs You.
Habitat for Humanity Hamilton is proud to be a partner in Ontario Corps, a province-wide network of trained volunteers, skilled professionals and community organizations that can support communities during emergencies.
Ontario Corps helps build a pool of trained volunteers who can provide additional support during emergencies such as floods, wildfires, severe storms and other events. Volunteers receive training and can be matched with opportunities based on their skills, interests and availability.
Why is Habitat Hamilton Involved?
Habitat has always been about bringing people together to strengthen our communities. Ontario Corps is another way we can use our experience with volunteers, construction, community partnerships and hands-on work to help communities prepare for and respond to emergencies.
As an Ontario Corps partner, Habitat Hamilton is helping recruit and train volunteers who are ready to lend a hand when they’re needed. You don’t need to be an emergency-response expert to get involved. Training opportunities will help you develop new skills and learn how you can contribute.
What Can Volunteers Do?
Depending on the emergency and the needs of the community, trained volunteers may support activities such as:
- Emergency supplies and logistics
- Debris cleanup
- Food services
- Shelter support
- Wellness checks
- Other community support activities
The goal is to build a trained pool of volunteers who are ready to help when communities need additional capacity.
Want to Get Involved?
We’re looking for Habitat volunteers, construction professionals and community members who are interested in learning new skills and being part of Ontario Corps.
Training opportunities will be offered throughout the year. Participation in Ontario Corps does not mean you will be called upon during an emergency, but it gives you the training and knowledge to be ready if your community needs you.
