Hamilton, ON (Dec 5)
At Habitat for Humanity Hamilton, we rely on our dedicated network of volunteers and partners, who help us build affordable homes and better futures for families our community. Without them, we simply could not advance our mission. In this Volunteer Spotlight, we will be highlighting the incredible support of one of our corporate partners, Service Line Warranties (SLW). Over the past few years, Elise Dostal, SLW Director of Partnerships, has coordinated corporate build days with Habitat Hamilton, and her team has consistently shown their commitment to creating affordable housing opportunities in Hamilton through their corporate build days and unwavering support.
Service Line Warranties specializes in partnering with municipalities and utilities to help homeowners understand and manage their responsibilities for water and sewer line repairs. By offering low-cost solutions to protect against unexpected repair expenses, SLW ensures that families can maintain their homes without financial strain. Given their close ties to the City of Hamilton, a long-standing municipal partner, SLW sought ways to give back to the community they serve. Habitat for Humanity was a natural fit.
“We’ve worked with Habitat for Humanity in other areas and knew it was a great fit for us to give back,” Elise shares. The alignment between SLW’s mission to support homeowners and our work to create pathways to affordable homeownership inspired their involvement in Habitat Hamilton’s mission.
Elise and her team have participated in several build days, the most recent of which was earlier this year on the Sherman Avenue site. These days provided her team the chance to trade their office environment for hard hats and hammers, coming together to make a give back and make a difference.
“We are dedicated to giving back to the communities we are in,” Elise says. “Being boots on the ground as a team, putting in the physical work, and seeing the progress has been incredibly rewarding for us.” Elise noted how these build days fostered teamwork and collaboration in ways no typical team-building activity could match.
Elise emphasized the benefits of contributing to a meaningful cause. “It’s not just about team building—it’s so much more. Participating in initiatives like this allows us to address community needs while showcasing our organization’s commitment to social responsibility,”
Elise believes that the work Habitat for Humanity does is transformative—not just for the families who move into their new homes, but for the volunteers and partners who help make it happen.
Service Line Warranties plans to continue supporting Habitat Hamilton’s initiatives. Elise and her team see their contributions as part of a broader effort to create affordable housing in Hamilton and beyond.
When asked what she would say to other corporate build sponsors considering participating, Elise said “I would recommend the experience to anyone. It feels good to make a difference, and you’ll inspire others to do the same.”
Corporate build days are a full day of fun, team building and meaningful volunteer work. They come with a light breakfast, snacks and drinks all day, a full lunch, t-shirts for all volunteers, and all training and PPE are included. There are also photo opportunities and social media recognition built into the day. If you or your company are interested in participating in a corporate build day, contact us to learn more. Together, we can create more stories like Elise’s and continue building stronger, more connected communities.
