[vc_row][vc_column][vc_single_image image=”2964″ img_size=”full”][vc_column_text]HAMILTON, ON (December 15, 2022) Stakeholders from across the community gathered on December 15 to celebrate Habitat for Humanity Hamilton’s latest home build project. Construction recently began on an all-new development site on Sherman Avenue North, that will help five local families gain access to quality affordable homes. The project is one of Habitat Hamilton’s largest and most ambitious builds in its 31-year history. As it can be very challenging for not-for-profits and charities to acquire land to develop in the current real estate market, Habitat Hamilton is seeking to maximize the potential impact this land provides.
“We are very excited to see construction begin on this project that will provide five families with safe, decent housing. We are extremely appreciative of all our partners, supporters, and volunteers who make this project possible. Our mission is to build strength, stability, and self-reliance through shelter, and we are fulfilling that mandate with new developments such as this one.” – Sean Ferris, CEO of Habitat for Humanity Hamilton
“Everyone deserves a safe and affordable place to call home. Our government remains committed to working with our partners to develop and implement solutions to housing in Ontario and across Canada. Today’s announcement will help five families here in Hamilton access safe, affordable housing and will allow these parents to raise their children in a healthy and supportive environment.” – Chad Collins, Member of Parliament for Hamilton East—Stoney Creek
“When I got the call that we were selected to receive a Habitat house, I was overwhelmed with gratitude. This house will provide us with opportunities that I otherwise couldn’t provide for my son. Having an affordable, stable, safe place for him to have friends over […] is beyond words for me.” – Esly, one of the future homeowners of one of the Sherman Avenue units.
Habitat for Humanity home build projects such as this one are only possible through a vast collaborative effort. Partners from across the public sector, private sector, and the not-for-profit sector have a hand in this build. Habitat for Humanity Canada, The City of Hamilton, The Government of Canada, ArcelorMittal Dofasco, The Realtors’ Association of Hamilton-Burlington, along with dozens of other corporate partners and individual supporters contributed significantly through volunteer hours, products and services offered as gifts-in-kind, and cash donations. Without the cooperation of the whole community, Habitat Hamilton would not be able to advance its mandate to address the current affordable housing crisis.
