Habitat Hamilton Commemorates GivingTuesday

(Tuesday, November 30, 2021 – Hamilton, ON) Habitat for Humanity Hamilton commemorates the importance of giving back to local charities, this GivingTuesday. Every year, GivingTuesday falls on the Tuesday following Black Friday and Cyber Monday—a day that encourages and celebrates philanthropic support.

GivingTuesday is a global giving movement that has been driven by individuals, charities, businesses, and communities across Canada and in countries around the world. It’s the world’s largest generosity movement and is considered by many as the opening day of the holiday giving season. GivingTuesday continues to gain traction across the country in its ninth year, with thousands of partner organizations and millions of Canadians expected to take part. Since 2013, GivingTuesday has united millions of Canadians to support and champion the causes they believe in and the communities in which they live.

The impact of GivingTuesday goes well beyond charitable donations, inspiring giving in all its forms. From coast to coast to coast, people are embracing this day as an opportunity to raise money for local charities and non-profits, run food and clothing drives, give blood, encourage kindness, help a neighbour, and celebrate paying it forward.

Many local charities rely on donations from companies, community members and individuals in order to deliver meaningful support to their beneficiaries. Habitat Hamilton is no different.

“Whether you decide to donate your time, your skills, product or money to Habitat Hamilton, you can rest assured knowing that your generosity is making a positive impact in our local communities,” says Sean Ferris, Executive Director of Habitat for Humanity Hamilton. “Making a gift today, helps us prepare for the New Year ahead.”

In 2022, Habitat Hamilton plans to break ground on a 5-unit townhome, in the heart of Hamilton, on Sherman Avenue. This will be the charity’s largest build since 2010.

Beyond building homes, Habitat Hamilton will also continue to provide experiential learning opportunities to local secondary school students. Throughout the school year, the organization provides skilled trades work experience to youth—building their confidence, time-management skills, and strengthened sense of community engagement. Habitat Hamilton will also continue to offer support to local homeowners, via its new RePair Rescue program, providing free exterior home repair to people facing hardship.

At a time when we are all experiencing the continued effects of the pandemic, GivingTuesday is an opportunity for people around the world to stand together in unity – to use their individual power of generosity to remain connected and heal.
