(Hamilton, ON) – Habitat for Humanity Hamilton celebrates the launch of its three-unit townhome in Waterdown with a groundbreaking ceremony on Thursday, April 4th.
The Waterdown Townhome Build is Habitat Hamilton’s first in the Flamborough region, located at the intersection of Highway 5 and Dennis Avenue. Home title supporter, Mikmada Homes, has partnered with Habitat Hamilton to provide site supervision alongside access and support to its industry partners.
“Habitat Hamilton is delighted to partner with Mikmada Homes on our inaugural Waterdown build. We’ve had such a supportive and energizing response from the community, and we are very thankful for the support the Flamborough region has shown us and our future Habitat homeowners. We are very excited to see the Waterdown Townhome Build come to life!”, says Sean Ferris, Executive Director of Habitat Hamilton.
“Mikmada Homes is excited to give back to the Waterdown community. While contributing to the overall success of this Habitat build, the Mikmada team is genuinely delighted to offer these families the opportunity to experience the thrill of their own new home build, from start to finish”, says Adam Nesbitt, President, Mikmada Homes.
Three future Habitat homeowners have been selected for the Waterdown Townhome Build and are looking forward to becoming first-time homeowners this upcoming fall.
Habitat Hamilton’s future Waterdown homeowners were selected based on each family’s level of need, their willingness to partner and their ability to pay an interest-free and geared-to-income mortgage. Our future Waterdown families have also completed 500 hours of volunteer support, either in the Hamilton ReStore, on our build sites or a combination of the two.
“Habitat Hamilton is humbled and honoured to partner with such an amazing and inspiring group of future homeowners. Our Waterdown townhomes will alleviate several challenges our future Habitat homeowners currently face, relating to overcrowding, high rental costs and lack of accessibility. We’re looking forward to providing three local families with the opportunity to build strength, stability and self-reliance through homeownership,” says Kathryn Fair, Manager of Homeowners and Volunteers.
This week’s groundbreaking celebration will take place on Thursday, April 4th at 10:00am at 10 Dennis Avenue. Media is welcome to attend the celebration, with interview and photo opportunities available.
Habitat for Humanity Hamilton continues to seek skilled-trades pro-bono support as well as donated materials and monetary contributions from local businesses and community members.
