Plans for 2,000+ Affordable Homes on Hamilton’s Horizon

(Hamilton, ON) November 8th, 2025

Two exciting new proposals could bring more than 2,400 affordable homes to Hamilton, marking a major step forward in addressing the city’s housing needs.

The Hamilton is Home coalition, led by local non-profit Indwell, envisions a vibrant mixed-income community of 2,200 rental and ownership units built on city land, designed to offer a full range of affordable housing options.

Meanwhile, Habitat for Humanity Hamilton has unveiled plans for 200 ownership homes inspired by a successful Waterloo Region model, using donated land and private builder partnerships to cut home prices by up to half. CEO Sean Ferris describes the project as “workforce housing,” aimed at helping nurses, teachers, and other middle-income earners achieve homeownership.

Both initiatives reflect a collaborative, community-driven approach that aligns with national housing priorities and could transform underused municipal land into inclusive, sustainable neighbourhoods where Hamilton residents can thrive.
