The ambitious Pier 8 development at Hamilton’s west harbour is entering a pause as city staff and the Waterfront Shores consortium navigate today’s challenging housing market. The project, which envisions roughly 1,645 residential units and 70,000 square feet of commercial space across nine blocks, remains a cornerstone of Hamilton’s long-term vision for a vibrant, inclusive waterfront community.
City staff emphasized their continued partnership with Waterfront Shores and their confidence in moving forward once market conditions improve. Ward 2 Councillor Cameron Kroetsch noted that this pause offers an opportunity to reimagine how the development can best serve residents and enhance public accessibility.
Habitat for Humanity Hamilton CEO Sean Ferris also reaffirmed Habitat’s commitment to pursuing future partnerships that help fill Hamilton’s affordable housing needs, highlighting the organization’s patience and optimism in today’s evolving housing landscape.
