Gala Set to Spark Action on Affordable Housing Crisis

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

We’re undergoing a very exciting and optimistic time in Hamilton’s history—something many are calling a renaissance of growth, economic diversification and culture. Though we’re seeing an upswing in development and prosperity, it’s important not to lose sight of the issues and challenges we still face in Hamilton and the surrounding region.

According to a Hamilton Community Foundation report, Hamilton’s renaissance is affecting renters throughout the City. “Hamilton’s social housing waitlist has had a net increase since 2006, to now 2.5% of the city’s households on the waitlist.”

Here at Habitat Hamilton, we strongly believe that access to adequate housing is incredibly important, directly impacting Hamilton’s economy, communities and people.

That’s why Habitat for Humanity Hamilton has decided to launch its inaugural signature event gala, Redefining Hamilton. Set to take place Friday October 21st at Tim Hortons Field (in the belairdirect Champions Club), the gala will pay homage to the incredible successes of yesterday and the challenges we’re inspired to overcome tomorrow.

Sean Ferris, Executive Director of Habitat for Humanity Hamilton, states “We’re so humbled and honoured to be hosting our inaugural signature event gala with so many engaged community members. Hamiltonians are strong and resilient. If we all band together, there’s no stopping us.”
Themed to celebrate our City in transformation, Redefining Hamilton will include engaging experiences with local artists, entertainers, foodies, change-makers, influencers and leaders.
This isn’t your typical gala.

Throughout the evening, Elissa Barber, local artist and proud Hamiltonian, will create a canvas painting through a live artwork performance. Attendees will receive a full-course meal, uniquely delivered via action stations, with a marché-styled dining experience. The meal will be accompanied by live dinner music by The Vaudevillian, followed by a few short words from our leadership team and Mayor Fred Eisenberger. Throughout the evening, guests will have the opportunity to bid on a wide array of highly-localized and noteworthy items at our silent auction. The evening will conclude with live and local entertainment by Reflexion.

This event has been made possible by Habitat Hamilton’s sponsors: Horizon Utilities, Investors Group, Dyer & Duman Design and The Hamilton Spectator.

All proceeds from the gala will support Habitat for Humanity Hamilton and its Home Build Program, which works to avert Hamilton’s affordable housing crisis and break the cycle of poverty.
