Build Program
Sherman Avenue Build
About the Build
Located on Sherman Avenue North, this row of townhouses provides five new affordable homes in Hamilton. Each two-storey townhouse will deliver 1,500 square feet of livable space and will come complete with a front porch, as well as a fenced backyard. In addition, there will be on-site parking available for one vehicle per household. This exciting project will provide local families with an opportunity to experience the benefits of homeownership.
Safe, Affordable Homes in Hamilton
Affordable housing is an essential part of any community, and the City of Hamilton is no exception. Access to housing that is affordable is key to helping families achieve stability and economic mobility. Unfortunately, there is a critical shortage of affordable housing in the city, and many Hamilton residents struggle to make ends meet.
For qualified applicants who are unable to secure a mortgage through a financial institution, Habitat for Humanity Hamilton is here to help. Our mortgages allow residents to pay geared-to-income, interest-free payments, allowing them the financial flexibility to make forward-thinking choices. An affordable mortgage helps homeowners save more, invest in education, pursue opportunities, and have more financial stability. We are dedicated to helping create more stable, vibrant, and diverse communities by giving families the ability to realize their dream of owning a home.
Empowering Our Youth with Skill-Building Opportunities
Habitat for Humanity Hamilton’s Sherman Avenue Build is providing real-world experiential learning opportunities to secondary students in our communities through our Youth Build Program. We have partnered with local school boards for over a decade, utilizing our build sites as real-world classrooms. Here, our experienced construction team works with Ontario Youth Apprenticeship Program (OYAP) students, providing mentorship and training in trade-related skills, such as carpentry, drywalling, painting, tiling, and more. These students will benefit from hands-on experience, equipping them with the skills necessary for future employment. We are excited to offer this unique opportunity to our youth and provide them with a head start in their future careers.
How You Can Help
We are in critical need of funding to purchase building materials for both the exteriors and interiors of these affordable homes in Hamilton. However, all forms of support – monetary, gift-in-kind, and pro-bono service – will help us support families and build strength, stability, and self-reliance through shelter. Making a donation to the Sherman Avenue Build will literally help us build change in our community from the ground up.
