(Thursday, August 19, 2021–Hamilton, ON) Habitat for Humanity Hamilton is excited to announce that a local family has recently donated a house in Hamilton to its cause. The family has contributed a home (and the land upon which it sits) as well as its contents (including a vehicle) to Habitat Hamilton, helping further its mission.
Though the donors have requested that their names remain anonymous, they encouraged Habitat Hamilton to share their giving story. The gift was the donors’ family home, a home that had been in the family for many years. But when the most recent occupant passed away, the family questioned what to do next. No one was in a position to move into the family home, but selling and splitting the estate didn’t feel right either. We’re told that’s when the family decided to self-reflect and pray for an answer. And soon, they were inspired with a solution—to donate the home to Habitat Hamilton.
“To say that we’re over-joyed by this very generous donation would be an understatement,” says Sean Ferris, Executive Director of Habitat Hamilton. “With this donation, we’ll be able to serve several future Habitat homeowner families, making a significant and lasting impact in our local communities.”
Habitat Hamilton plans to spruce up the home, with the support of volunteers, and resell on the open market.
“Instead of housing just one family in the home that’s been donated, we’ve decided (with the permission and encouragement of the donors) to sell the home. With the proceeds collected from the sale, we will be able to support multiple families, furthering our mission and impact,” explains Ferris.
Soon, Habitat for Humanity Hamilton will be calling for support from its volunteers and the community to help get the home market-ready. To learn more about volunteering with Habitat Hamilton, please click here.
