For many, the holidays can be a stressful time of year. Between gift giving, holiday dinners, and special events, it can be a hectic time of year for many people. This winter, we’ve tried to lessen the burden by creating a gift guide for giving back. Complete your holiday shopping list with our one-stop shop gift guide, with a dozen symbolic items for purchase that help us build homes for future Habitat homeowners.
The gift guide provides a simple way to donate to Habitat Hamilton in honour of a friend, family member or colleague, while also tackling the affordable housing crisis, here in Hamilton. Instead of gifting a stale fruit cake, a predictable box of holiday chocolates or a tacky knickknack, give a gift that’ll make a difference!
We have curated a list of charitable donation gifts that enable us to build safe, decent and affordable homes. The gift guide has a range of items available for symbolic purchase to help build a home for a future Habitat homeowner family. It takes roughly 53,261 nails, 760 tiles and 5,391 screws to complete just one Habitat Hamilton home, not to mention several other materials and tools. With that being said, whether you purchase a bucket of screws for $25, $100-worth of tile and grout or a household appliance for $1,000, you can rest assured knowing that you’ve helped us build a home.
Every gift makes a huge difference as we tackle Hamilton’s affordable housing crisis.
Did you know that over 15,000 people are on the city’s waiting list for subsidized housing? As the Hamilton Spectator points out (in its four-part series on the lack of affordable housing in the city), we could nearly fill the 17,000 seats in the FirstOntario Centre with all of the people who are in need of a safe and affordable place to call home.
We believe that everyone should have a home that’s safe, decent and affordable.
As a small charity, we work hard to build homes for as many future Habitat homeowner families as we can, but we need your help to make meaningful and permanent change in the lives of more Hamiltonians.
