FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
HABITAT FOR HUMANITY HAMILTON TO CELEBRATE KEY DEDICATION CEREMONY WITH THREE LOCAL FAMILIES
After a long journey of hard work from community volunteers, students, supporters and partner families, it’s time for Habitat for Humanity Hamilton to celebrate the completion of its three-unit townhome on Burton Street, in Hamilton’s reinvented North End.
The Moo, Paw and Chowdhury families couldn’t be happier to be turning over a new leaf and becoming home owners for the first time.
Habitat for Humanity Hamilton follows a simple philosophy: provide hard-working and deserving families with a “hand-up” (instead of a hand out), equipping them with the foundation and tools necessary to break themselves free from poverty.
Each Burton Street partner family contributed over 500 hours of “sweat equity” volunteer support, building and working on their homes in place of a traditional down payment. Alongside Habitat Hamilton’s Burton Street partner families, community members, businesses, faith-based groups and students worked tirelessly to help Habitat staff make the dream of three families a reality.
Friday, September 30th, from 12p.m.-1p.m., at 104-108 Burton Street, Habitat for Humanity Hamilton will officially hand over the keys to the Burton Street partner families. Supporters, volunteers, friends and media are welcome to join us for a few special announcements and refreshments.
“The Burton Street townhome is near and dear to many of us here at Habitat for Humanity Hamilton. We’re so happy for the Moo, Paw and Chowdhury families who will not only become home owners, but will also have access to a vibrant and safe neighbourhood,” said Sean Ferris, Executive Director of Habitat Hamilton.
Located just steps from a community garden and a block from the Eva Rothwell Centre, the Burton Street families will have access to the exciting events and offerings their new neighbourhood provides.
Like all Habitat for Humanity Hamilton partner families, the Moo, Paw and Chowdhury families will receive an interest-free, geared-to-income mortgage, making monthly payments into Habitat’s “Fund for Humanity.” All mortgage payments made by partner families are reinvested into Habitat’s Home Build Program, enabling Habitat Hamilton to build even more homes in our local communities.
